CHAVERIM SCHOOL OF HILLEL B’NAI TORAH
The ten classes we offer are 1. Kitah Gan (Kindergarten Class) – Five year old class. 15 sessions, approximately twice a month, Sundays, 10:00 a.m.-noon 2. Kitah Aleph (First Grade Class) 30 weekly sessions, Sundays, 10:00 a.m.- noon 3. Kitah Bet (Second Grade Class) 30 weekly sessions, Sundays, 10:00 a.m.-noon 4. Kitah Gimel (Third Grade Class) 60 classes: 30 weekly sessions, Sundays, 10:00 a.m.-noon and 30 weekly sessions, Wednesdays, 4:00-6:00 p.m. 5. Kitah Dalet (Fourth Grade Class) 60 sessions: same as Kitah Gimel 6. Kitah Hay (Fifth Grade Class) 60 sessions: same as Kitah Gimel 7. Kitah Vav (Sixth Grade Class) 60 sessions same as Kitah Gimel 8. Kitah Zayin (Seventh Grade Class)) 30 weekly sessions, Sundays, 12:30-2:30 p.m. 9. Kitot Chet & Tet (eighth & ninth Grade Classes) 15 sessions, Wednesdays, 6-8 p.m. 10. Siyyum (tenth, eleventh and twelfth Grade Classes) 9 sessions, Sundays, 5:30-7 p.m. Kitot Vav and Zayin Book Club (grades 6 & 7): This group meets five Wednesday evenings during the year, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and is always a lively discussion. Each month the group votes on the book to be read for the following meeting; all suggestions are welcome to ensure a diversity of titles. The group is led by Elyse Rast. Kitah Vav Rosh Hodesh: It’s a Girl Thing---This monthly program brings together Jewish teaching, ritual and a nurturing space for girls to talk about their lives. This is part of the national Rosh Hodesh girls’ program, will meet one Sunday afternoon a month, from 3-5 p.m. and will be led by Elyse Rast. Kitah Zayin (grade 7): This weekly class with Elyse Rast who has trained with “Facing History,” an award-winning Holocaust studies program, will study Holocaust and Ethics and will meet on Sunday afternoons from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Kitah Zayin Rosh Hodesh: It’s a Girl Thing—This monthly program is a continuation of the vav experience and will meet one Sunday afternoon a month from 3-5 p.m. Kitot Chet and Tet (grades 8 & 9):—This class meets for 15 Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. Beginning with dinner, we will go on to a study and discussion of the historical journey our ancestors took and the stories they wrote about this journey. Siyyum (grades 10, 11 & 12): “I Am Jewish Because…” This is a discussion group with the rabbi that will explore a variety of approaches to God and help students express their own ideas about being Jewish. This class will meet on 9 Sundays from 5:30-7 p.m. Madrichim-Classroom Assistants-Grades 8-12: This is an opportunity to help Jewish learning happen—and get paid! You may work as a classroom assistant on Sunday mornings and/or Wednesday afternoons. You will receive training and ongoing support and will be setting a great example for younger children by showing them that school participation and learning do not end in 6th grade. No’ar Hadash—Youth Group-Grades 7-8 & 6: Now in its 3rd year, No’ar Hadash offers creative, fun programming with a Reconstructionist perspective. We have 4 events for 7th and 8th graders and 2 events for 6th graders. Grades 7/8 Sundays, 4:30-6:30 Grade 6, Saturdays, 5-7 p.m. CURRICULUM NIGHT — Grades k-6 Director and the teachers will present the curriculum for each grade, followed with by a discussion/question and answer period. PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES — Grades k-6 — This is an opportunity for parents and teachers to share information about students’ progress.
