A Note from Michael.:
Since literature asks of readers that we struggle to make thoughtful evaluations of character(s),I hope that this literary exercise will enhance our interpretive skills and stimulate our sympathetic connections to an-other. The four very different stories, each in its unique way illustrate the necessity, or difficulty, or failure to experience and to act on an impulse that enables a character address to the other in compassionate, dignified human terms. I hope our discussions may not only probe the complex meanings of these stories but also provide us the opportunity to explore ways of being and acting in our own world.
