Rosh Hashanah Seder

This Seder is especially for families, for anyone looking for a new ritual, or if you already enjoy the Rosh Hashanah seder!

If you love the Passover seder, you have to try the Rosh Hashanah seder! This is the year to do something completely different, and to ask for as many blessings for the New Year as possible! Join Rabbi Barbara at her dining room table with your family and other HBT friends to bless and eat special foods to get your Rosh Hashanah off to a sweet start.

What you will need to enjoy the tastes of the Rosh Hashanah seder:

  • apples and honey (of course)

  • dates

  • pomegranate seeds (cut up a whole pomegranate, or just get the seeds)

  • green beans or black-eyed peas

  • artichoke hearts or hearts of palm

  • the head of something: lettuce, a fish….be creative!

  • challah (and more honey)

  • A little more preparation---see recipes provided:

    • a dish made with pumpkin or squash

    • a dish made with beets

    • a dish made with leeks

  • candles, candlesticks, and matches to welcome Shabbat and Rosh Hashanah

  • Wine/grape juice for Kiddush

Bring what you can. If you can't arrange for everything on the list, come and enjoy what others are eating vicariously. Kids can also draw the foods or make them with clay or other media, just for fun!
