Extend your Purim celebration and come and discuss The Book of V. with us.
A message from Jessie Boatright
The Book of V. intertwines the stories of three women across centuries, featuring a dramatic reframing of Esther's story in Ancient Persia, the story of Vivian, a politician's wife in Watergate-era Washington, and the modern day experiences of Lily, a mother, daughter and second wife in Brooklyn. Macmillan, the publisher, notes "For fans of The Hours and
Fates and Furies, a bold, kaleidoscopic novel intertwining the lives of three women across three centuries as their stories of sex, power, and desire finally converge in the present day." The Book of V. is written by Cape Ann native Anna Solomon, who weaves Cape Ann and Boston locales into the story. The Book of V. was a Good Morning America Book Club Pick, a Belletrist Book Club Pick, and included on NPR and Kirkus Review's Best Book of the Year list for 2020.
For anyone who has ever struggled to understand the Esther and Vashti dichotomy, or struggled with a handmade Purim costume, this book is not only a great read but will lead to a great discussion.
