Michal Weits examines the complex legacy of her great grandfather Joseph, whose Blue Box campaign helped purchase land for the future State of Israel.
Generations of Israelis and Jews grew up putting coins into the Jewish National Fund’s (JNF) Blue Boxes, helping to purchase lands that would become the State of Israel. Filmmaker Michal Weits explores the figure of her great grandfather Joseph Weits, a leading figure in the JNF. Pouring through diaries and confronting family members, she tries to reconcile her great grandfather’s contributions and his controversial legacy in the creation of the Jewish state. Eye-opening, illuminating and brave, Blue Box is essential viewing for open and honest conversations about painful truths.
