Speakers for Human Rights Shabbat
Dr. Geralde Gabeau, Founder and Executive Director of IFSI-USA
Eli Sobel, Boston Education & Training Manger at Keshet
Saturday, December 14 is Human Rights Shabbat to honor the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) adopted by the United Nations in 1948 and to recommit ourselves to its profound call. We will hold a special Shabbat service from 10am-12pm where we will, as we do annually, share in an inspiring participatory reading of the UDHR by members of our community. We consider this to be our prophetic reading or Haftarah for the day.
After services, from 12:30-2pm over lunch, we will hear from two incredible speakers: Dr. Geralde Gabeau and Eli Sobel. We will learn from our speakers about the threats in our country right now to the immigrant community and to the trans community in particular - two communities on whom this rhetoric of blame and dehumanization has been specifically placed. We will work together to make sure we know how to care for one another in these times.
The Larry M. Diamond Tikkun Olam Youth Award honors a young adult member of HBT who demonstrates commitment to Tikkun Olam. This year, the Award will be given early in 2025. Watch for further details on how to apply and event details.
