HBT is excited to host a local gem and photojournalist, Ilene Perlman.
Those Who Stayed is Ilene's long term photography project featuring imagery of global Jewish communities, many of which have faced historical and political isolation yet maintain their devotion. Her work pays tribute to the endurance and evolution of Jewish life around the world. Ilene's bio in her words: As a documentary photographer, I have traveled the world to create a visual representation of the diversity of Jewish communities in Africa, the Mideast, India, Central and South America, Europe,and Russia. While many of these communities have dwindled over the years,others remain vibrant. Sharing their stories is a way to honor our ancestry, to contribute to the broader story regarding immigration, and to help raise awareness about the diversity of the Jewish people. And imagery is a powerful medium to help people see their shared humanity and find connection with one another.
