In celebration of Human Rights Shabbat, Temple Hillel B'nai Torah welcomes Yotam Polizer, CEO of IsraAID, to share inspiring stories of hope, collaboration, and resilience with our community.
As Israel's leading humanitarian aid NGO responding to humanitarian crises worldwide, IsraAID recently facilitated the covert evacuations of 167 vulnerable Afghans through the UAE and Albania. Many of those evacuated were women and girls at risk of being targeted directly by the Taliban as symbols of female empowerment, including doctors, judges, journalists, human rights activists, and members of the national women's cycling team. IsraAID will continue to provide assistance and support to those remaining evacuees currently living in refugee shelters in the seaside town of Kolaveri, Albania, along with the approximately 4,000 other Afghans temporarily residing there before their long-term resettlement in other countries.
Join us on Saturday, December 11th as we hear from Yotam as he shares his own firsthand moving account of these extraordinary evacuations and the weeks-long collaborative humanitarian effort bringing together governments, aid organizations, activists, and donors to make it all possible. Most importantly, you will learn about the extraordinary and inspiring group of Afghan women and girls who got everything started, and who are wonderful heroes and role models.
(For more information about this incredible mission, we've linked the CNN video feature, as well as inspiring pieces in the Jewish Insider and the Washington Post.)
